THE WORK OF CHARLIE WHITNEY
For Art Basel Miami 2016 Rachel Rossin brought some of her VR works to this big event with an even bigger screen. Rossin's ambient works filled a 70' dome while partygoers acclimated to this surreal environment. The evening culminated in an interactive performance by musician ABRA in which Rossin's visuals took on an an dynamic and performative role.
Using custom software written in Cinder and Unity, Rossin's face was mapped in real-time and reconstituted into an ethereal avatar which floated around the dome, lip-syncing with ABRA. At the same time some of Rossin's other VR works played underneath and were dynamically mixed in. The VR works were dynamically spherically mapped and output in a 4k by 4k resolution giving everyone an unreal shared experience in super high resolution.
